Casting

This article describes the steps to create a master model for brass casting, including tips on the producers I have used. The example above shows a master model and the result from the serial casting.

The idea:
Produce a master model and get as many copies as you want, almost…

Construction:
Build up your model from etched brass parts or file a piece of brass to the shape you want. The only rules to be followed are:
* Compensate for about 5% shrinking (i.e. make your master model 5% larger)
* Use solder with a melt temperature above 150°C

Allow yourself some time to make a good master model and try to get a good surface finish.

Serial production:
I use MK Trading in  Seoul. They make a great job for a tenth of the price in Germany and with better quality. Simply send your master model to them and ask for a quotation. In a couple of weeks you will have your serial batch at home, a multiple of perfect copies of your master.
